NOON MEALS

 

     A tasty noon meal is served at Em's Cafe (652-1000) every week day starting at 11:30 a.m.   The meal is open to the public and the cost to seniors (60 and over) is $3.25. 

     Good food and fellowship make a meal enjoyable.  If you are unable to attend your meals can be delivered to your home.  You may qualify thru Social Services.  Let the Seniors know if there is anyone in the Akeley area who needs meals.  Lutheran Social Services can help.

NUTRITION PROGRAM

 

     NAPS (Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors) and MAC (Mothers and Children) programs are available to residents in this area.  The Akeley site serves people from Akeley, Nevis, Park Rapids and Laporte.  NAPS provides a box of food each month to seniors 60 years or older who meet federal income guides.  MAC is for families where a child is under 6 and not currently on WIC.  MAC also provides for food, such as fruits, vegetables and juice, cheese, cereal, etc.

     To apply or find out more, please call Irma Vanden Eykel (218 652 3177) for an application form.  Delivery to the Akeley site is the 3rd or 4th Wednesday of every month.

 


 

HEARTLAND EXPRESS

     The Heartland Express is a public transportation service so anyone can ride.  You must, however, make reservations.  Call 732-9328 between 8:00 a.m. and noon Mon. thru Fri. or long distance 1-800-660-1666.  The bus can come to Akeley on Mon., Wed., or Fri.

House Cleaning and homemaking skills available to qualified Seniors.  Call Mahube at 732-7204

Seniors are to call Mahube at 732-7204 for Energy Assistance guidelines and for guidelines on prescription drugs.

Call Senior Linkage Line at 1-800-333-2433 for a packet on Bioterrorism.

 


 

     A big "thank you" to the Akeley VFW and Auxiliary with the Akeley Lions for the wonderful gift of 150 fruit baskets delivered throughout the Akeley area during the holidays.
