If you still have a 'dial up' computer, don't attempt to view video.  To anyone else interested, I was asked to forward this from COLA RE: zebra mussels.  :)  Thanks . . .

COLA Reps and Presidents,

This is the video clip on the effects of Zebra Mussels on Pelican Lake in Ottertail County that was shown at the AIS Legislative Summit in Detroit Lakes.  Click on the youtube link below.  Please share this video with your lake association members.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan,

Here it is!  Thanks again for requesting this.  I hope it helps people to double their efforts to stop the spread of zebra mussels.

Like I said at the summit, in 2010 we had zebra mussels but didn't notice them in the lake.  By the next summer, 2011, they were like razor blades cutting our feet when we swam.  Cuts were just from walking on the bottom or pushing off to swim.  I'm not exaggerating when I say that we had blood dripping down our dock from cut feet quite commonly.  Kids didn't want to play in the lake, people wanted to buy shoes.  It is really, really sad to have to 'put on shoes' to go for a lake swim.  Now, in 2012, I think we'll also have all the shells washed up on the beach as well.  Ugh.

Thanks Dan.  I will be sending you your master copy and links shortly.

Erika

Hi Erika,

Just wanted to remind you about that video on your lakeshore on Pelican Lake where your families kids cut their feet on the Zebra Mussel shells.

Thanks,

Dan
