Council Meeting Minutes
AKELEY CITY COUNCIL
WORK SESSION
JANUARY 31, 2007
6:30 PM CITY HALL
The Akeley
City Council met in a work session Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at 6:30
PM. Tom Moore called the meeting to order. Members present were Brian
Hitchcock, Frank Lamb, Cliff Johnson, and Eric Sjolin. The Pledge of
Allegiance was recited by the Council and attending audience.
Leonard
Ridlon was present to represent the senior citizens during discussion
regarding rental of the meeting hall. The following prices were
suggested:
Rental of Hall w/o Kitchen
$25.00 (Deposit $50.00)
Rental of Hall w/ Kitchen
$50.00 (Deposit $75.00)
Leonard
requested that paid senior citizen members would be permitted to use the
meeting hall at no cost provided that it didn’t conflict with the City’s
or Senior Citizen’s scheduled meetings. A suggestion was made to have
simple guidelines for use of the meeting hall and that smoking and
liquor should be prohibited. Leonard suggested that the City of Akeley
be the recipient of any money collected for rental of the meeting hall
since the utility bills are paid by the City of Akeley.
Discussion
was held regarding raises and whether they should be given to the
employees at the beginning of each year or at their anniversary date
after a performance review has been given to the employee. A suggestion
was made to use the “steps” for full time employee raises and that
part-time employees would receive a raise due to a recommendation made
by the employee’s supervisor which is then brought before the council
and approved. The council has to determine if Denise Rittgers is to
start at step # 4 or #5 since it wasn’t specified when she was hired.
The
responsibilities/wages/benefits for Melissa Niblick were also discussed
since she is temporarily managing the liquor store due to health issues
of the current manager. Suzette Zallar’s benefits were also discussed
since she was hired as a full-time employee according to the liquor
store manager.
Holiday pay
for part time employees was also discussed since the Employee Handbook
only states that part time liquor store employees will receive time and
a half pay if working a paid holiday. It did not state that any other
part time employees would receive holiday pay if they worked a paid
holiday.
Motion made
by Frank Lamb seconded by Brian Hitchcock and carried to adjourn.
