I was searching for information on Akeley,MN and came across this website. I am the third son and forth (and youngest)child of Robert Keith Dobson, who grew up in Akeley before joining the military and moving to California, where he currently still resides. I noticed that my Aunt Vivian (Dobson) Benrick recently attended her 1948 HS Reunion. I've only been to Akeley a couple of times, the last time being in 1977 or so, when I was just 16. I remember fishing on the lake and netting the big walleye that my pop caught. I'll never forget how excited he was. I remember dad showing me the gas station where he worked, and the house he grew up in. I know he remembers Akeley with fondness, and it will always hold a special place in his heart. Keep up the good work, and I'll check in from time to time.

For those who have been wondering what's up at The ARCC (Akeley Regional Community Center), it is my privilege to share the forward progress. "The Corner Clothing Shop", our gently used clothing store is in full swing with a huge inventory of top of the line clothes at affordable prices. Hours: Wed.& Fri. 9-5pm, Thurs.12-8pm, and Sat. 9-12noon. All proceeds go toward operating expenses of The ARCC. Teen and Adult Basketball is happening on Monday and Wednesday nights from 8-10 for 9th grade and up. Donations welcomed. Awanas meet every Wednesday from 6-7:30pm with a youth group following at 7:30. Progress is being made with the new Community Library as painting nears completion. The new Youth Room awaits carpet and volunteers to supervise activities. We are pleased to be hosting 4-H Meetings the first Monday of each month. Little League is back in Akeley and there will be an informational meeting on Tue. Nov. 18. Crow Wing Community Church is holding meetings every Monday night. Leasing of space is available for meetings and activities. Anyone interested can call 218-252-2735 And best of all, we now have heat in the building; thanks to donations and efforts of many. My Aunt and Uncle (Helen and Jim Hudson) used to own a small cabin and rented fishing boats on a small lake (Bass Lake) about 5 miles (west?) of Akeley, going towards Walker, back in the late 50's early 60's. Cabin burned sometime in the early to mid 60's and they sold out & moved. I would like some information on that particular lake, especially if there is any lake front property for sale, lease or rent.

Just found your website, looks great. I was born in Akeley to Rev. and Mrs. E.R.Ingram. He was pastor of the Methodist Church way back when. I graduated from Akeley High School in 1943 (that's way back when). Come back to visit quite often, in fact, will be there this summer in time for the Paul Bunyan Days.

My father lived in Akley with his father, Mother Augusta Hoaglund (Rudquist) Fred Hoaglund attended the schools approx. 1900's. His father worked in the mills and died in Akley.There was a brother Walter Hoaglund. Are there any records of Hoaglunds in the 1900's.Other surname spelling could be Hogland, Hoagland, Hagland. Did you know there is talk of demoliting the old AKELEY HIGH SCHOOL? Some of the local residents would like to save the school. And possibly turn it into a community center.. Which I think is a great idea. The saddest part of it was is that only one of the city council members showed up. There was a meeting was to try and get support from the community along with the support from the city council to save the school.The turn out was not very good. It was sad..This school has alot of potential..It would be a great loss to Akeley if it were torn down..Come show your support.. Before its to late.. Thanks
